The rules that apply when you order from this site. They are written to be read, not to be survived. Where a clause restates something on the care page, this version is the one that governs.
Noir Grain Wood Atelier is a woodworking business in eastern Slovakia, European Union, selling directly and online only. There is no shop, no showroom and no reseller: if you did not buy it here, we did not sell it to you.
Company and VAT registration numbers: to be added before launch. Written enquiries and any notice under these terms go to hello@noirgrain.com, and we reply within two working days.
Nothing is held in stock. Placing an order starts a build, and the contract forms when we confirm that order by email, not when you press the button.
Standard pieces take three to four weeks. Engraving adds three days. Bespoke work runs five to eight weeks from the point the drawing is agreed. If a build is going to run late, we tell you before the date passes rather than after.
Prices are shown in euro and include Slovak VAT. Shipping is added at checkout and shown before you pay. The price that applies is the one displayed when your order is confirmed.
Standard orders are paid in full up front. Bespoke commissions take a 50% deposit to start the build, with the balance due before dispatch. The deposit covers timber and bench time already committed and is not refundable once cutting has begun.
Slovakia, Czechia and the rest of the European Union ship free. The United Kingdom is €24 and the United States and Canada €48, with duties and import taxes payable by you on arrival. Anywhere else is quoted at checkout.
Every shipment is insured for its full value and tracked. Risk passes to you on delivery. If a parcel arrives damaged, photograph the outer packaging before unpacking any further and send us the images — we replace the board.
You have thirty days from delivery to return an unused board for a full refund of the item price. Return postage is yours unless the board was faulty or wrongly supplied. This sits on top of, and is longer than, the fourteen-day withdrawal right EU consumers have by law.
Engraved and bespoke pieces are made to your specification and cannot be returned or cancelled once cutting has begun, except where they are faulty. A board that has been used, washed or oiled is no longer unused.
Every board is guaranteed for ten years from delivery against splitting, cupping or delamination in normal domestic use. No registration and no receipt: the serial number on the underside is the record and we hold the other half of it.
We repair or replace at our discretion, and we pay the return carriage on a valid claim. The guarantee runs with the board, not with the buyer, so a board given as a gift is covered in the recipient’s hands.
The guarantee assumes the board is washed by hand, dried standing on edge, and re-oiled when the surface stops beading water. The oil, balm and cloth needed to do all of that ship free with every board.
Dishwasher use voids the guarantee outright: heat and saturation delaminate any glued end-grain block, and no maker can insure against it. Also excluded are impact damage, cleaver and bone work, commercial kitchen use, and damage from cooking oils or solvents applied to the surface.
Bespoke orders proceed from a written specification and a drawing that you approve before any timber is cut. We build what the approved drawing shows.
Engraving text is set exactly as you supply it. Check your spelling: we cannot undo an engraving, and a mis-typed name is not a fault.
These are boards made from whole trees, so no two are identical. Grain, figure and colour vary between boards of the same species, and photographs on this site show representative pieces rather than the specific board you will receive.
All four species darken and shift with light and age — cherry noticeably within the first year. That is the material behaving normally, and it is not a defect or a ground for return.
Nothing here limits our liability for death, personal injury or fraud, or any statutory right you have as a consumer. Beyond that, our liability for any order is limited to the amount you paid for it, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
These terms are governed by Slovak law and the courts of the Slovak Republic have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the EU, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in.
We hold what an order needs — name, delivery address, email, order history — for as long as tax and guarantee records require, and we do not sell it or pass it to anyone beyond the carrier and the payment provider handling your order.
