Wash it by hand. Stand it up to dry. Put the oil back when water stops beading. That is the whole of it, and the kit to do it comes free in the box.
Warm water, a little soap, a cloth or brush, straight after you finish. Thirty seconds. Coarse salt and half a lemon lifts anything dried on, and takes garlic and onion back out of the surface.
Never The dishwasher. Heat plus saturation is what pulls a glued block apart, and one cycle can do it. It is the only exclusion on the guarantee.
Wipe both faces, then stand the board on edge with air reaching both sides until it is bone dry. Left lying flat, one face dries and the other stays wet — and that difference is what cups a board.
Never Soaking it, leaving it flat and wet, or storing it in direct sun or above a radiator. All three dry one face faster than the other.
Monthly for the first six months, then whenever water stops beading and the surface looks grey. Grey is thirst, not damage: one heavy coat overnight brings the colour straight back. Fifteen minutes, and the board is ready by morning.
Never Olive, sunflower or any cooking oil. They turn rancid inside the wood and the smell never leaves. Food-grade mineral oil only — which is what is in the kit.
Rule three in four steps. The free kit in the box does all of it — no workshop, no special tools.
Twelve hours after its last wash. Oil will not go into wet wood — it sits on top and stays tacky.
Pour the oil on and spread it over the faces, edges and underside. End grain soaks it up, so use plenty.
Stand it on edge with air on both sides. Wipe off whatever has not soaked in by morning.
A thin coat of balm worked in by hand, then buffed dry until it stops feeling waxy. That layer sheds the water.
It ships inside the presentation box, not as an extra: enough oil and balm for roughly the first year of monthly care. Buy the refill only when that runs out.

Boards travel inside their birch presentation box, which goes into a double-walled carton with corner protection. Every shipment is insured for full value and tracked door to door.
Anywhere else is quoted at checkout. Every board is built to order, so add three to four weeks before anything ships; engraved pieces add three days. If one arrives damaged, photograph the packaging before unpacking further and we replace it.
Thirty days to return an unused board for a full refund, minus return postage. Engraved and bespoke pieces cannot be returned, for the obvious reason. The full terms and conditions set all of this out formally.
Ten years against splitting, cupping or delamination in normal domestic use. No registration, no receipt: the serial number on the underside is the record and we hold the other half of it. Dishwasher damage and cleaver impact are the only exclusions.
Separately, and for as long as the workshop exists, we re-flatten and re-finish any Noir Grain board for the cost of return postage.
